I am super excited to be sharing this :-)
When John & Diny were nominated as a couple for one of my giveaways I couldn't resist their story. They were married in Holland and migrated to Australia. They will have been together for 60 years at the end of this year....and I felt incredibly privileged to witness the love and joy that they still have for each other.
It was heartwarming.
Beautiful.
And full of belly laughs.

A Couple in Love
In recognition of making it to 1111 likers on my facebook page, I want to photograph a couple in love.
But not just any couple!
I would love to photography a couple who have been married for many years.
Say 40... or more :-)
This is a gift. For the couple - and for me!!
Do you think that your parents, or your grandparents, or even your great-grandparents have a love for each other you have always admired? Whose relationship has stood the tests of life and time?
If so - please nominate them :-)
There are just a few conditions to consider:

b) They must be happy to be in front of my camera
c) They must be open to doing a bit of 'homework' prior to the session
d) They must be willing to share their story with me
e) They must be available for an afternoon, weekday session in April or May this year (a mutually suitable date to be arranged)

- 1 hour photo session on location
- One 8x10" print
- 5 professionally edited, high resolution images on disk

4 Sisters and their Mum....
I am finally finding a chance to blog the second photo shoot from my Spirit of Giving christmas giveaway. If you remember, the delightful little Reef was my first gift...you can view his post here:
Well I think the best way to start this post is by sharing part of the email that was sent to me by of of these wonderful lady's daughters :-)
I am nominating my Mum to have photos taken with her three sisters and her mum. Over the last two years her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to have the breast removed. Then 12 months later, cancerous cells started to appear again. Fortunately they were able to remove the cells but unsure when they are going to appear again.
Also, their mother is about to turn 86 next Thursday and over the last several months she has started to deteriorate. There would be nothing better than the five of them getting together and having the time of their life creating special memories.
This email moved me...what an incredibly deserving family. Apparently, when these 4 beautiful sisters were told they had won a photo shoot, they got a bit vocal as they don't like getting their photo taken...then they dissolved into tears of appreciation.
All nervous with of the thought of a camera in their face, they soon started to relax, chat and share stories. Wonderful, beautiful stories of such a close-knit loving family. And not just the immediate family - I'm talking that every Sunday the sisters, their husbands, children & grandchildren nearly all make the effort to drive to Grandma's family home at Grasstree Beach.
There are around 45 of them!!!
FOURTY-FIVE.
It truly surprised in the nicest possible way.
What a special, loving family.
It is very rare that there is just the five of them so I think they truly enjoyed their time together.
When I asked them if they knew what was said in their nomination, they all said 'no'...but were curious to know. When I shared with them there were more tears (yes, I'll admit it, even in my eyes) of love, gratitude and tenderness.
I could have stayed listening to their stories for hours.
Perhaps I did.
I could have stayed even longer then!
Since doing this shoot, I have heard the incredibly sad news that the Aunty who had the breast cancer has more cancers appearing again in three areas of her body.
This makes me even more grateful that I was able to create these memories for them.
Thoughts and prayers are with this incredible family.

The adorable little Reef...
Where to start...I am almost at a loss for words. Yes! ME at a loss for words!
Every now and then you meet someone (or several someone's!) who you feel blessed to have spent time with. This gorgeous family is the several someones. Pedro, Bec & Reef are an amazing, inspiring, strong, warm, friendly, caring, understanding (I could go on and on) people whom I was lucky enough to photograph and hear their story. A story that is both heartwarming and heartbreaking.
I will rewind a little and start at the beginning. Bec was nominated by her gorgeous friend for my 'Spirit of Giving' christmas giveaway. When I read the nomination about Pedro and Bec's story I knew I wanted to do something special for them. What I absolutely love about these photo shoots, is not only do I get to take photos and create memories, I get to listen to the most moving stories and see just how inspiring some people are.
A little of their story...
After years of difficulties they had in falling pregnant Reef was eventually conceived via IVF. However, when Reef was only 2 days old when he was diagnosed with Downs Syndrome. If that wasn't enough of a shock and adjustment, at just 8.5 months old they were then given another devastating blow...Reef has AML Leukaemia. He was given an 80% chance of survival. For the next 8 months Bec & Reef had to relocate to Brisbane for intensive chemotherapy whilst Pedro commuted back and forth to work. After returning home, Reef then had to spend the next 4 months in isolation until his immune system recovered enough to venture out.
Enough to make us all look at our own children and feel incredibly blessed, isn't it?
But instead of just curling up and doing what was needed to survive, these a.m.a.z.i.n.g parents threw themselves into charity work and helping others.
I could see that Pedro is Bec's rock - supporting her and spending every moment possible with Reef.
And Bec...wow. She is an incredible lady - someone I would certainly look up to admire. Her office is an array of information:
* for her own charity
* for the events she organises through the Mackay support group she has established
* with phone numbers to call to bring more awareness to downs syndrome and other disabilities in the region
The bond Pedro and Bec have with Reef was so clearly evident that it made me almost tear up. And the love they have for each other was equally special to witness. I absolutely adore these photos...and I hope they do too :-)
Oh boy...I have a lump in my throat just writing this. xo

The spirit of giving...
....to someone in need. That's what Christmas should be all about. Most of us have so much to be thankful for. A nice home, a good partner, healthy kids, great food, a comfortable bed, wonderful holidays planned. Maybe all of these, maybe a combination of some. But I wanted to take the time and remember those at Christmas who aren't so fortunate. They may have lost a loved one, been given some heart wrenching news, have children who are sick or disabled, be alone, be struggling to buy food - let alone gifts for family or friends.
So this Christmas I want to give back to those who may be in need. I would like to offer TWO free photo sessions to someone who would love some beautiful, lasting memories.
The more I think about trying to reach 1000 likers the more I realise that it is just for me. So I feel good. So instead of waiting until then, I am going to start this giveaway now...regardless of how many likes I have. And I will announce the winners on Saturday 24th December - just in time for Christmas :-)
